FAQ

Common questions

Is it compatible with all mini split systems?

The Star Box carries the line set for a standard wall mounted ductless indoor unit, so compatibility is about line sizes rather than equipment brand. The knockouts provide multiple opening sizes to accommodate the line set.

How do I install this in an existing wall?

It is designed for rough-in, before drywall. In a gut remodel or an open wall, it installs the same way. In a finished wall you would need to open the bay, which is usually not worth doing for this product alone.

What size line sets does it accommodate?

Three knockouts on the top and three on the bottom. On each face, the two large knockouts open to 1-1/4 or 2 inch and the small one to 1/2 or 3/4 inch, matched to standard conduit trade sizes.

Does it work with metal studs?

Yes. The mounting wings screw to wood or metal studs at 16 inch centers, and the long slots allow side to side adjustment where the framing is not exactly on center.

Do I need one per indoor unit?

Yes, one box per indoor head unit location. A three head system uses three boxes, one behind each head.
